Terms of Reference

The Summer Committee is established in accordance with sections 12(3) and 18(1)(a) of the Murdoch University Act 1973. The committee operates in accordance with the Principles for Senate Standing Committees and conducts its business in accordance with the Senate Standing Orders.

1.	Role
	To exercise all of the powers of the Senate, except the power to make statutes, by-laws and regulations, during the period between the last Senate meeting of the year and the first Senate meeting of the new year.
2.	Membership and Composition
	2.1	Chancellor
	2.2	Vice Chancellor
	2.3	3 other Senators appointed by the Senate at its November meeting each year, with power to co-opt for particular issues.
3.	Committee Skills Mix
	3.1	Good attention to detail.
	3.2	Availability over the period December, January and February.
	3.3	All Senators are eligible for appointment under 2.3.
4.	Terms of Office
	Members are appointed annually at the last meeting of Senate of the calendar year for a term of one summer period.
5.	Secretary
	University Secretary
6.	Meetings
	The Committee meets as required.
7.	Quorum
	The quorum is three members.
