Terms of reference

1.

To award honorary degrees and Senate Medals in accordance with policies approved by the Senate, and after inviting nominations from Senators and staff .

2.

To determine who will deliver occasional addresses at Graduation Ceremonies and the annual Murdoch Lecture. Where a decision needs to be finalised before the next meeting of the Committee, the Chancellor may decide on its behalf .

3.

To exercise oversight of Senate guidelines and policy on honorary degrees, Senate Medals, Graduation Ceremonies and regalia.

Composition
- Chancellor (chair)
- Deputy Chancellor
- Vice Chancellor
- An elected student member of Senate or Guild President ex-officio
- 1 - 2 lay Senators
- 1 academic staff Senator
- 2 professors/associate professors, appointed by Academic Council
- The general staff Senator
- The membership will include at least one male and at least one female
- Standing observer: Director of Community Relations
- Secretary: General Counsel & University Secretary

All members

  • Respect for confidentiality of the discussions.

    Among members

  • Some senior academic members.
  • Knowledge of (and preferably personal acquaintance with) leaders in academic, business and political circles and the community.
