Terms of reference

1.

To advise the Senate on the form of all proposed changes to University Statutes, Regulations and Bylaws, and to ensure they are both clear and legally sound. Where the content of the changes does not fall within the scope of another Senate committee or of Academic Council, the Committee may also advise on the policy behind the changes.

2.

To advise the Senate on changes to the Murdoch Act.

3.

To recommend to the Senate any changes to the University's internal legislation that the committee regards as necessary or desirable to give effect to approved policies or to place the University on a sound legal footing.

Composition
- Up to 4 Senators (including one academic staff Senator)
- Vice Chancellor
- An elected student member of Senate or Guild President ex-officio
- Dean of Law (ex officio)
- General Counsel & University Secretary
- The membership will include at least one male and at least one female
- Secretary: General Counsel & University Secretary

Membership criteria

All members

  • Good attention to detail.
  • Used to working with legislation.

    Among members

  • At least 2 members with legal expertise.
  • An academic and a student Senator, who can see the educational context within which the regulations are framed.
