Senate MembersMr Russell GibbsAs Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiian, Russell Gibbs oversees one of Australia’s largest privately owned property groups. Russell’s experience within the property industry started in 1989 when he joined Jones Lang Wootton as a Retail Leasing executive. He worked in a variety of roles including property management and sales over a period of seven years, and was promoted to senior management at Jones Lang Wootton in 1992. In 1996, Russell joined Hawaiian where he oversaw the acquisition, investment and financial management of the Group’s Commercial Portfolio. After four years as Asset Manager, Russell was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiian in March 2000. Since being at the helm of Hawaiian, Russell has been instrumental in restructuring the Group and guiding its new direction. During this time, Russell’s has lead Hawaiian in a number of substantial property investment and development acquisitions as well as identifying other strategic investment opportunities for the Group. As a result of these initiatives, Hawaiian today owns a high quality portfolio of commercial, retail, industrial, hospitality and development properties around Australia. Under Russell’s direction, Hawaiian also works in partnership with a number of community groups around the State, to promote the Arts and support those in need. Over the past 20 years, Russell has held various senior Board and committee positions in the property industry, tourism, the Arts and charity organisations. These include past President of the Property Council of Australia – WA Division, and currently councillor of the Australian Business Arts Foundation (AbaF), and member of the Youth Focus Board. Previously, Russell has also been a Director on Boards including the Perth Convention Bureau, the Cancer Support Association of WA, and the City of Perth Heritage Appeal. Prior to becoming involved in the property industry, Russell’s initial qualifications were gained in Education, where he taught at a number of schools in metropolitan and regional areas.
