Senate MembersDr Marian Kemp![]() Dr Marian Kemp Marian Kemp is currently the Head of Student Learning in the Teaching and Learning Centre and the Senior Lecturer in Numeracy. She has been a member of staff at Murdoch since 1986, initially in the School of Education and subsequently in the TLC. Marian completed her Bachelor of Education (Honours) at London University and taught mathematics in secondary schools in the UK, Jamaica, Bahamas, Nigeria and Australia. She has completed a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education, both in Mathematics Education, at Murdoch University. As Murdoch’s Senior Lecturer in Numeracy, Marian has helped students across the Murdoch campuses with mathematics, both undergraduates and postgraduates, and across a wide range of units. Her work as a teacher has been recognised with a Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2001, and a Vice Chancellor’s Citation and a Carrick Australian Award for University Teaching in 2007. Marian was elected to the Senate in November 2007 for a three-year term. She is now serving her second term on Academic Council, as an elected member of academic staff, and is a keen contributor to Academic Council’s committees, including committees concerned with social justice, technology and academic integrity. Marian’s research in Mathematics Education has included collaborative research across Faculties at Murdoch, publishing papers with colleagues in both the School of Education and the School of Chemical and Mathematical Sciences. She has contributed to national and International conferences in the fields of numeracy and the use of technology in education. She has also served on both state and national committees of professional bodies associated with Mathematics Education.
