Senate Observers

Murdoch University staff and students may be allowed to attend meetings of the University Senate as non-participating observers at the discretion of the Chancellor. Generally observers will not be permitted unless they can demonstrate a strong connection between their role at the University and specific agenda items.

Anyone interested in attending a Senate meeting as an observer should advise the Manager, Secretariat  beforehand, via email to t.mcglade@murdoch.edu.au or by phoning ext. 7318. The Senate agenda (but not confidential supporting papers) can be accessed on the web.

Observers are not allowed to speak (unless invited to do so by the Chancellor), or to bring recording equipment or cameras into the meeting. They also cannot be present during any confidential session of the meeting: those items to be considered in committee normally will be considered at the start of the meeting.

Senate meetings are held in the Senate room, adjacent to BankWest off Bush Court. The seating for observers is on the southern wall of the Senate room.

If Senate decides to consider any matters in committee, observers will be asked to leave the room during consideration of those items. Usually the agenda will indicate which items (if any) will be considered in committee.
